The Intermedia Performance Studio & Beyond/In Western New York 2010
Invite You to Get in the Game on July 31, starting 10 AM at Sugar City
PLAY/SHARE BEYOND/IN: A City-wide Street Game
play/share beyond/in is a pervasive game to be played between the real streets of Buffalo and a fantastic alternative-history city, using mobile phones, live performances, social web media and virtual constructs. What if tomorrow you woke up to a city powered by Tesla’s wireless electricity!? full of hybrid Pierce Arrow cars!? with hover-trains roaring into Central Terminal!? play/share beyond/in invites you to imagine and play in your dream (or nightmare) Buffalo. Game Day One kicks off 10-noon July 31 at Sugar City (19 Wadsworth, Buffalo 14210) as part of the Buffalo Infringement Festival. Game Day 2 is an outreach event for the Beyond/In Western New York Exhibition on October 3. Between the game days, the online network will feature writing contests and a community of players and makers. Visit us to learn how to play or to become a creator of alternate history – http://www.playsharebeyondin.org Read the rest of this entry »

Friday, November 20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance, an international day to memorialize and reflect on the human loss that results from anti-trans hate and fear of people who do not conform rigidly to the binary gender system. Cayden Mak is curating an event at the Department of Media Study’s Open Graduate Studio (CFA 286) to create space and time for observance and activism. The event will take place on that Friday from 1 until 4 pm.
Creative and/or critical works regarding the issue of oppression and silencing due to gender identity and expression will be considered for the show. There will be space for installation work as well as time for screening, performance or reading. The event will culminate in a social justice workshop.
Please submit work/proposals and direct questions to Cayden Mak (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Friday, November 12.
